Info About Gro Aut Oil Information & Ingredients

                                           Gro Aut Oil Ingredients:

I'm not planning on using the Gro Aut Oil as a growth aide anymore, but I hear good things about the oil, so I am posting this for information purposes for those who are interested. I may try it one day in the future because I have been reading about people having great results using this product, so I may purchase it one day! :D Go to Youtube and check out the many reviews from ladies who have used it with great success!

Here are the ingredients:

Coconut oil,

Olive oil,

Jojoba oil,

Eclipta alba,

Embelica officinalis,

Rosemary oil,

Biotin,

Msm,

Lavender oil.

Eclipta alba = bhringraj oil
Embelica officinalis = amla oil

Gro-Aut (grow out) Hair Oil - This patented formula promotes hair growth by penetrating the hair shafts driving herbal nutrients into the hair follicles. Fill in bald patches, reverse hair loss, or simply grow the long hair you have always desired with Gro-Aut hair growth oil. With use of this herbal oil and our Gro-Aut shampoo, hair appears to 'grow out' overnight! You'll see noticeable results in as little as 7 days. For the best results, follow our hair care regime below

1. Wash hair twice a week (a minimum of 1x per week), 1st using our Gro-aut Herbal Shampoo. Rinse thoroughly. (To encourage hair growth with thickness, use our Gro-aut Sulfate Free Shampoo in this step instead.)

2. Then wash hair with our Jojoba Shampoo. Rinse thoroughly. (This step can be skipped if using the Gro-aut Sulfate Free Shampoo)

3. Afterwards, apply our Jojoba Conditioner with Chamomile and Tea tree oil. Do not rinse. You may rinse if desired but leave on for at least five minutes before rinsing. (To encourage hair growth with thickness, use our Gro-aut Herbal Conditioner in this step instead.)

4. Oil scalp with bhringro hair oil, maha oil, and GRO-AUT oil.
5. Then, oil hair, not scalp, with coconut oil paying particular attention to oiling the ends.
6. Gently comb through hair to distribute conditioner and oils from roots to ends.

7. Style as usual.
Additional Hair Growth Regime Secrets and Tips

- Multivitamin with iron daily.
- Gro-Aut Hair Stimulator Vitamins
- Cover hair when sleeping with a bonnet or scarf.
- Trim hair (no more than ¼”) at least every six weeks.
- Bhringraj Herbal Supplements.
- Oil hair as needed (minimum twice weekly) when hair and scalp appears dry.
- Be sure your ends are never dry. Apply coconut oil to your hair and ends as needed to prevent
breakage. This will retain the length received from use of the Gro-aut products.
- May use oils daily however the more often you oil your scalp contributes to the possibility of dirt
build up as oil attracts dirt. Dirt build up on the scalp causes blocked hair follicles which may cause
hair breakage from the scalp. In this case, you may need to wash more often than twice a week.
- Limit your use of heat products to your hair. This includes hair dryers, curling irons and flat irons.
The less often heat is used on your hair the better. Excessive use of heat application to your hair
thins the hair causing an increase in hair breakage.

REMEMBER......your hair is always growing but you must retain the length to see it. Gro-aut products with use of our regime simply speeds up your hair growth rate and helps you to retain the growth received so that you and others can actually see the magnificant results!
Good luck on your hair care journey and happy hair growing!

Video Tips on Bunning & Maintenance!

Video Tips on Bunning (Mega Protective Style)

I have always loved bunning, even before I started on my HHJ, I would throw my hair in a bun, especially when I am working out, it has been the most convenient way to style my hair! Above is my first "Elegant Bun" I used a synthetic braid to add volume to my bun, and it gives me versatility! I can wear this bun on any occassion, with hair accessories to compliment the event, or just how I am feeling @ the time! I'm not big on hair accessories, but I am starting to like them, and plan to incorporate them in my HHJ styling regimen! Check out videos below. They are tutorials on how I achieved this style, and how to maintain it! Bunning IS the go to protective style, while trying to grow &/or retain length for hair growth! Let's grow some beautiful hair! :D

Ultimate Tips & Instructions on Growing Thick & Long Healthy Hair

Ultimate Tips & Instructions on Growing Thick & Long Healthy Hair

~Low-Manipulative Styling for THICKness~

-Bunning
-Roller sets BEFORE 6 wk post and 1x/bi weekly
-Bantu knot out(s) 1-4 sections ONLY
-1-4 Flexi Rods
-Clipping up your hair (tuck ends)
-Braids or twists that are kept in for at least a month at a time, but no more than 1.5 months for individuals
-Sew-ins/Wigs/Cornrows no longer than 2 months
-Heat pass 1x every month or more

___________________________________________________
THICK Hair Rules!
-Have your last trim before starting your hair journey, only trim if necessary during your journey, or you will not see your absolute progress (make sure you are FAITHFUL to moisturizing & sealing your ends at least 4x/wk to prevent splitting and breakage of your ends)
NUTRITION

-Take a multivitamin (Discuss with your physician/pharmacist if it is appropriate for you to take them, what options are best for you, and the best way to take them)

-Eat a healthy diet. Eliminate as much fast food and processed foods out of your diet as possible

-Drink plenty of water. Drink at least 8 cups (~4 water bottles) a day

FITNESS

-Exercise at least 30 min a day. It's important to have good blood circulation so that the nutrients we consume are passed along to our hair follicles to get the best growth

WASH DAYS

-Detangle (if necessary) in sections, combing from ends to the roots and/OR detangle under running water with conditioner in your hair with your fingers or a wide tooth comb, best after DCing

-NEVER pile your hair on top of your head and start scrubbing vigorously. Try to scrub your scalp gently with your fingers aligned vertically. If your hair is long enough, braid your hair in sections and wash in those sections

-Use a T Shirt to squeeze/press out water gently if necessary

STYLING

-Always use a leave in conditioner spray/foam, alcohol-free, before styling always to prevent breakage!

-Air Dry whenever possible

-Roller sets counts as a manipulative style when you are 6 wks post relaxers...if you have 100% natural hair and do not experience breakage, it is not consider a manipulative style when you do it 2x per month (if you are transitioning it is a manipulative style because of the two textures)

-Do not use damaged styling tools, especially combs, they snag/break at the hair and can cause breakage

-Relaxed hair, always blow dry on cool. Naturals, use the lowest heat possible. Invest in a blow dryer that focuses on keeping moisture in the hair such as ceramic or tourmaline dryers that have ionic technology, and also have a powerful motor so there is less time you will have to use the blow dryer on your tresses...
*make sure you do research before any purchase

-Only wide tooth combs allowed for combing through the entire length of your hair from ends to roots. Medium teeth combs and tangle teezer are okay for detangling your ends or sections of hair, but use them carefully and with patience to avoid damage and use them on a bi/weekly basis or not at all if possible.

-Always comb your hair from ends to roots!, to avoid knots and tanlges

-Avoid brushes (Use satin/silk scarf with Aloe Vera gel/Alcohol-free foam or mousse to lay down edges...or use the scarf method with out using gel if possible)

-If you use gel, try to use 98-100% Aloe Vera gel or an alcohol-free gel that's conditioning

-Wrapping straight hair and wet wrapping is FORBIDDEN, this THINS out your hair (look at "Helpful Youtube Vids" discussion for cross wrapping)...wrapping right after a roller set to set the hair is okay with a wide tooth comb, but wet wrapping is absolutely forbidden!

-If you are bunning, use satin scrunchies (available at Walmart, Goody brand), and do not pull hair too tight

-When you are doing the scarf method, use a satin/silk headband or scarf

-Keep hands out of your hair when not styling/massaging

-Tie your hair with a satin/silk scarf or bonnet EVERY night!!!, and secure it so your hairline/nape is not exposed. Get a silk/satin pillow case if you have problems with your scarf falling off at night

                                                           BRAIDS/WEAVES
-People with thin edges ABSOLUTELY NO individuals

-Absolutely NO GLUE in tracks

-If you have a full head sew-in, make sure the braids are not braided too tight, if it is too tight please tell your stylist before they finish the braid up or installing the weave. This can lead to traction alopecia.

-If you have a sew-in, be gentle with combing, especially when a month has passed and there is new growth, you don't want to cause breakage when pulling on the tracks, be gentle!

-Make sure whoever does your individual braids doesn't do them too tight, this can cause hair breakage at the root or damaged hair follicles

-Avoid micros (try to stay with small/medium sized braids or larger)

-DO NOT wear tight ponytails with individuals. This can lead to thinning edges. Try to wear your braids in loose styles. Avoid pulling and be gentle.

-Use light oils/products/growth aids (e.g. Gro Aut oil, coconut oil) on your scalp with individuals, thicker oils like JBCO will attract more dirt causing more build up, which can lead to more hair loss when taking down your braids. Also when installing braids, avoid heavy products like waxes because they will cause instant build up and attract more build up.

-For individuals, try to avoid synthetic hair if possible, especially if you have dry hair, it tends to dry the hair out

RELAXING

-DO NOT start self relaxing until you have done your research, have practiced with conditioner, timed yourself from start to finish, and read the directions thoroughly, doing this will avoid a setback!...Make sure to have someone with you when you attempt relaxing the first couple times incase you need assistance...There are some good tutorials in the Youtube Vids discussion...

-Stretch relaxers for at least 8 weeks. The longer your stretches the more thickness you may gain, challenge your self to a longer stretch each time. Stretching for 12-16 weeks or more is the goal for this challenge. If you notice breakage before the time you planned to relax, evaluate how you been styling your hair and how often have you been deep conditioning, you should be DCing at least 1x/wk, you might want to increase to 2x/wk (with protein or moisture or alternating depending on what your hair needs), if you still experience breakage it's probably best to relax to avoid a set back, always listen to your hair

-If you have a very sensitive scalp, base your scalp with Vaseline the night before the relaxer and again the day of your relaxer on your problem areas or your whole head again if you are very sensitive. It is important that you don't burn before the relaxer is able to process your hair. This can lead to uneven under processed hair which can lead to breakage

-If you are not relaxing your edges or nape, section off those areas (braided, with clips, etc.) before relaxing

~If you have thin edges or nape area, try to relax them when they have at least an inch of new growth or every other relaxer or more if possible...

-If you are relaxed, always coat your hair with conditioner or an oil on your relaxed hair before relaxing to prevent over processing your previously relaxed hair

-When relaxing edges/nape, relax those areas LAST, If you want them to process more slowly add more Vaseline/base to the area

FLAT IRON
-Invest in a flat iron that has tourmaline, 100% ceramic, or tourmaline-cermamic mix
*make sure you do research before any purchase

-Invest in a blow dryer that focuses on keeping moisture in the hair such as ceramic or tourmaline dryers that have ionic technology, and also have a powerful motor so there is less time you will have to use the blow dryer on your tresses...
*make sure you do research before any purchase

-Try to flat iron only when necessary, length checks and special occasions (e.g. graduation, birthday, wedding, etc.)

-Clarify, preferably with a chelating shampoo, to remove build up to get maxium results with the deep conditioning treatment and remove mineral deposits to get the best shine

-Do a deep condition treatment with heat the day of flat ironing

-Relaxed and naturals, if possible, air dry, roller set, or caruso steam roller, before flat ironing, or flat iron roots only, if possible

-Try to use 350 degrees or lower

-Always use a heat protectant, try to find one that benefits your hair while using heat and is alcohol-free

-Deep condition treatment with heat after/before washing flat ironed hair

-Remember 'traditional' wrapping is FORBIDDEN (may use wide tooth comb to set the hair or saran wrap the first day, if necessary)
Look here for alternative methods in the Cross Wrapping for Straight Hair section on this page http://www.hairlista.com/group/low-manipulation-h-e-n-c-e-thickness-challenge/forum/topics/helpful-youtube-vids-what-are-your-favs , also you can do pin curls, use large flexi rods in big sections, or pillow rollers to maintain curls...

GROWTH AIDS

-Add a growth aid (make sure to do a spot test on topical aids for allergic reactions, especially for sulfur allergy)
+Black Tea Rinses (Shedding)
+JBCO
+PPO w. Shampoos/DCs
+Gro Aut Oil
+Sulfur mix
+Indian Oils
+GHE
+Others…
-If you are applying topical growth aids to your scalp more than 3x/wk make sure you wash at least 2x/wk so hair folicles do not get clogged. Clogged pores can lead to hair loss

-Massage scalp &/or problem areas with or without growth aids at least 3x/wk to promote growth

The Green House Effect "GHE" (For Growing Long Hair)

                                                  THE GREEN HOUSE EFFECT
                                                        "For Growing Long Hair"

Green House Effect Explained & Tutorial

                                        GHE Recipe.......
.:On damp or dry hair apply a generous amount of the oil of your choice. Root to tip

.:Place shower cap or plastic bag over your hair to lock in the moisture from your scalps natural oils and heat from your head. This creates a green house, steam effect during your sleep which is the best time for your hair growth in this case. For those who are relaxed or natural but flat ironed, you can apply a shower cap or plastic bag to ends only loosely securing it to your hair with a scrunchy or clip.

.:Place a head tie/scarf over your head & shower cap making sure that it’s nice and snug; for best results also wear a winter hat over your scarf to help produce more heat.

.:In the morning you may find that your hair is a bit damp from the moisture the steam effect created. You can either blow dry it on cool setting, let it air dry a bit before styling, or go ahead and style it while it’s still damp and let it dry as the day progresses.......

Egg Protein Treatment & Recipe "UPDATED" w/ New recipe 8/28/12

New Egg Protein Treatment Recipe minus the Sweet Orange Oil

New Recipe:
Our hair needs extra protein. This is because our hair is made by keratin (a protein). It is especially important when you have chemically treated hair, which means you have dyed, bleached, relaxed your hair etc. The reason this homemade hair mask gives your hair protein is because of the egg.
I want to share an easy DIY protein hair mask with you :)
I put in: Coconut Oil, Honey, 1 Avocado, 1 egg, Sweet Orange Oil & Shea Butter
Put everything in your blender and start mixing!

First Egg Treatment & Recipe (7/22/12)
I did my first egg protein treatment on July 22, 2012! I mixed 1- egg, vo5 conditioner, evoo, I applied it with my relaxer brush starting from the roots on down until my whole head was saturated with the mix, covered my hair with a plastic cap & left it on 20 minutes. I then I rinsed it out with the coldest water ever on my head, shampoo'd with a moisturizing shampoo, rinsed it out, applied hollywood beauty deep conditioning treatment with jbco/coconut oil, sat under low heat cap for 30 minutes, rinsed it out, then I applied my HE hydrating conditioner in shower for 5 minutes, rinsed it out, towel pat dried my hair with a tee shirt, then I applied my Pantene detangling anti breakage leave in creme, detangled my hair from ends up to roots, put my hair in a bun, and now I am air drying with the teeshirt on my head! My hair loves protein, but I know it would because my body also craves protein, I have noticed this in some of my family members too... My hair looked so healthy to me after my regimen today, BUT I had some serious shedding too! I know the sheeding is normal, but when is it NOT normal??? I do have to say, I am happy to have more shedding than breakage, my breakage is almost gone, maybe 1-3 lil strans of breakage every now and then! :D Im going to do the black tea rinses soon! :D

I made my own "Natural" Homemade Gel!!! :D

Here is the recipe! It works better than the clear beauty supply gels! :D

1)Flaxseeds- 1/4 cup

2)Water- 2 cups
3)2 tbsp of Coconut Oil
Add flaxseeds & water to saucepan, bring to a boil. As flaxseeds & water cooks in boiling water, stir frequently to avoid seeds sticking to the pan. Once the seeds and water start to gel together, turn off fire under the saucepan. Take some cheese cloth, or a old nylon stocking and put in a glass container around the edges so that you can pour the mix into it to strain the gel from the seeds! "REMEMBER" the gel is still "HOT" so I used (2) wooden spoons and placed them on both sides of the stocking squeezing the gel down thru the stocking and into the glass container. Once you have squeezed all the gel into the container, pour in the 2 tbsp of coconut oil into the mix. Now the video I saw of a lady making it, she added all these other essential oils into the mix, but I don't have any of those, so I thought, a little coconut oil can't hurt right! Keep it in a air tight container in the refrigerator for 90 days, It came out GREAT!!! It's the thick sticky I like to slick down my hair and it's natural too!!! I did a allergy test because I used to get headaches when I would put flaxseeds in my smoothies, or shakes last night. So far so good and it's been 14 hrs, so I think I may be clear to use it! I will NEVER by store bought gel with all that alcohol in it!!! What was I ever thinking??? :D
Here is a link to the video I saw! I followed it step by step, and it came out great!

Protein & Moisture Balance Information (Now I can see the P&M balance in my hair!)

Protein & Moisture Balance Information (Now I can see the P&M balance in my hair!) "Updated"

Hi Ladies!

I saw this post by Sunshyne, and I thought I'd post it as a blog to remember how important Protein & Mouisture ballance is to our hair! This list is very thorough, and it takes the guessing out of what to use to achieve this balance! :D

Here is a post from Sunshyne explaining how you can tell if you have an inbalance in P&M!
Know your Moisture & Protein Balance!
If you find hairs on your shirt, bathroom floor, sink etc. you most likely have a problem with breakage. Breakage normally occurs when there is an imbalance between your moisture and protein levels

Moisture

Water helps provides the hair with elasticity and the ability to stretch. Water is the ultimate
moisturizer that is why water based products are great for moisturizing the hair.

Good moisturizers will not contain cheap ingredients like mineral oil, lanolin or petrolatum. They do nothing for the hair but sit on top of it. They seal out the moisture. You don't want that.

Protein

Protein gives the hair structure and strength to fight breakage. Protein binds to the hair cuticles to help temporarily rebuild any weakened areas. There are different proteins out there. Some are stronger and milder than other. Daily or weekly use of milder protein treatments can throw off your moisture and protein balance, depending on the individual.

Women with relaxed or color treated hair need more protein than others. These chemical services have broken down the protein bonds within the hair. Some may be protein deficient by nature due to genes or low protein intake so regual protein may be needed to keep the balance in place. Overall, you have to experiment to get to know your own hair.

You just can't have one without the other. Moisture and protein work together in harmony to produce a healthy head of hair. They need each other!! Hair will properly absorb moisture more efficiently with adequate amounts of protein on a regular basis. The water molecules bind easily to the protein structure within the hair.

Here are two situations where achieving the proper balance is essential:

Scenario 1: Kim's hair is breaking like crazy and feels like a brillo pad. It is just plain crunchy and dry! Every time she touches it, pieces seem to just pop right off. Snap, crackle, pop. Combing is impossible without tons of little hairs covering her sink and back. Her hair feels hard and rough even when wet. She's given it protein treatments because the product says it is supposed to stop breakage in its tracks and rebuild the hair. But so far, nothing is working and her problem is getting worse.

Scenario 2: Trina's hair is breaking like crazy as well. Her hair feels dry, looks dull, and is very weak. Her hair is too weak to withstand simple combing. It feels extra stretchy when wet and almost follows the comb as she pulls through to detangle. Her hair is just limp and has no life. She's deep conditioned and done hot oil treatments on her hair once a week. Since her breakage began, she has stepped up the conditioning but her problem has gotten worse.

Same problem different solutions!

Both of these ladies have breakage issues. Both of these situations reveal that there is an imbalance between moisture and protein. Too much moisture can lead to breakage and too much protein can lead to breakage.

Assess your hair (while wet or dry):

(When Wet or Dry) If your hair stretches slightly and returns to its original length without breaking, you are balanced! Stick with maintaining!

(When Wet or Dry) If your hair stretches a little more than normal then breaks, you need more protein in your regimen.

(When Wet or Dry)If your hair stretches, stretches, stretches with no significant breakage yet, add a bit more protein to your regimen.

(Wet) Feels weak, gummy, mushy, or limp, you need to add more protein to your regimen.

(Wet or Dry) Experiences very little to no stretching, and simply snaps or breaks, you need to increase the moisture in your regimen.

(Dry) Feels rough, tough, hard, dry, tangly, brittle, or any combination of those, you need more moisture in your regimen.

Unsure? On the side of caution and give your hair more moisture.

When your hair is thrown off balance by too much protein, it will break easier on wet or dry hair because it lacks elasticity. Elasticity is what allows us to style, stretch, and manipulate our hair without brekage.

Too much protein:

Hair that breaks with a little amount of tension/stress is a sign of too much protein with a
deficiency of moisture. Too much protein and structure makes the hair rigid and stiff lacking
elasticity. which leads to breakage prone hair just like Kim.

Too much moisture:

When our hair is super elastic, it will stretch more because it lacks structure (protein).
Overmoisturized hair is "mushy" and overly soft especially when wet. It will feel weak, limp,
soggy etc. Overly moisutized hair will stretch first and then break due to the overabundance of moisture.
