Preventing (Trichonodosis) On Single Hair Strands

I found this article from another hair blogger, and I didn't want to forget this. This strand twist happened to me last night while I was moisturizing & sealing my hair! I had the normal shedding, but I noticed that I had been having these twisted strands of hair! I tried to detangle the knot, but it ended up breaking!!! "Arggggg"!!! So I also wanted to share this with you, so if this has ever happened to you, you will know what to do also! :D

                                          (Trichonodosis) On Single Hair Strands

Have you ever been detangling your hair and noticed a knot on your hair... No not a tangle... but a knot on one single hair strand that look like you took that strand and tied a bow. Well I have fell victim of this also known as Trichonodosis! Yes it has a name! I would find myself detanging my hair and finding that 2 or 1 strand would be tied in a tiny knot that was impossible to undo. Trichonodosis can be serious if you want to retain hair length and usually what happens when you can not get the knot off that strand is you have to 1. Cut it or 2. Try to loosen it but in most cases the single hair strand will always break.
For me mines where created when I would detangle improperly. Sometimes I would be finger detangling and when you separate tangles from the top of your hair down this way caused Trichonodosis (single knots on single hair strands). So now I make sure to never do that. This is a common problem for most curly hair people. Here are some tips to avoid this altogether
- Make sure to always detangle from the ends of your hair up. And when parting your hair make sure you never separate and pull downward. I see a lot of ladies doing this. Instead start at the ends and separate hair for parted style.
- Never shampoo your hair pilled on top of your head.
- Moisturize and seal with a great lubricant. Shea butter is a great way to lubricate the hair. Friction from your hair rubbing on things can cause single strand knots.
-Detangle your hair BEFORE you shampoo! This is the truth! I have found that if I don't detangle before I shampoo I see those knots more. Make sure you lubricate your hair prior to detangling.
- Use a wide tooth comb for detangling. Smaller teeth combs can cause these knots on the hair strands also.
- Get rid of shed hair. A lot of ladies like to avoid removing shed hair by only detangling every blue moon. But shed hair as I discussed in a previous post can knot onto a strand and cause breakage.
- Regular trims can prevent these knots on the ends of your hair. But proper care can avoid them up the hair shaft.
For me the only way I have got rid of them when I seen them in my hair was to cut above the knot. When this happens that is usually your only option. If you be gentle with your hair and take your time Trichonodosis will not take your hair as a victim. Also keep your hair lubricated at ALL times!
